I was standing outside in downtown Austin tonight, when a B-25 flew overhead three times. Flight Radar identified it as registration N25YR. I have no idea why it was flying around the city at night, but I have seen this particular Mitchell before, and I photographed it at an air show in Temple last year. It’s a beauty, nicknamed Yellow Rose, and part of the Commemorative Air Force.

Amazing how aircraft of this period looked very similar.
Looks like a Bristol Blenheim front and main body with a Avro Shackleton tail.
Nice photo by the way.

Rightfully so. It’s perfectly lit, clear blue sky, strong on detail and in the centre of the shot.
I don’t think many could of got a better had even on the ground not moving.

Thanks again. This is from the air show in Temple, TX, and it’s always one of my favorites. The flight line is such that the afternoon sun is at the audience’s back, and lighting is always great. I’m particularly fond of the prop blur. It’s always a balancing act to shoot slow enough that you don’t freeze the prop, yet fast enough that it’s still sharp. You can check out the whole gallery

Cheers fella. I’ll do that.
Hopefully there will be some British stuff there. ;)

Might have been coming out of the CAF squadron based in San Marcos. This particular plane was at the Wings Over Houston airshow a few weeks back. Sometimes they do rides for cash - an evening flight over Austin would be cool.

It made three passes over the Long Center (where I was), east to west. And pretty low. There was a UT home football game last night, and when I got home from the show my wife told me that they may have done a WWII vet recognition before the game (she watched the coin toss, and there were some really old dudes out there with the refs, but she didn’t have the sound on). So, it’s very possible, if not likely, that the B-25 was part of that ceremony, and he was passing over downtown in an orbit to make the timing work out at the stadium.

That’s right, Veteran’s day is this week.
